Hats Off To Hats!

Remember the days where a lady didn't leave the house without her hat.

Unfortunately I don't as I'm not old enough but boy I wish those days would come back! I have a few vintage hats in my collection and I'm sad to say they don't get much use. But after going to the Love Vintage Fair last weekend and seeing the amazing hats I want to change that!

Maybe I could take up the tradition of buying a new hat every year, hell lets throw in a new matching dress while we are at it!

Martha says it quite well..

"A hat is a flag, a shield, a bit of armor, and the badge of femininity. A hat is the difference between wearing clothes and wearing a costume; it's the difference between being dressed and being dressed up; it's the difference between looking adequate and looking your best. A hat is to be stylish in, to glow under, to flirt beneath, to make all others seem jealous over, and to make all men feel masculine about. A piece of magic is a hat." (Martha Sliter)

My favourite hats were from Circa Vintage Hats who imports original vintage hats from New York, Chicago and Paris

I was also excited to discover Julie Fleming who makes the most beautiful vintage styled hats and hosts classes where you can learn how to
make your own hats.

On my wish list it goes!

Amy Atlas was frustrated not knowing how to describe different patterns so she made up this guide to help identify them.

 A bright fun helpful resource!

Frida Kahlo's Closet

Frida Kahlo's clothing is on display at
The Frida Kahlo Museum
in Mexico City until November 22, 2013.

The braid, the flowers, the monobrow, the long skirts...
her look is so unique.

Go to a dress up party as Frida and if no one knows who you are they have been living under a rock!

Wish I was in Mexico to see it.

Fashion Sourcebook - 1920s

I saw this book in my local book store and

instantly fell in love.

A perfect book to to read curled up in my comfy chair in the sun with a cup of tea and cat on my lap. Dreaming of what I would wear out on crazy nights full of speakeasies, champagne and dancing the Charleston!

There is one for the 1930s too, which is my favorite time in fashion history!

The Great British Sewing Bee

I have been obsessed with watching

A contest to find Britain's best home sewer.  No over to top tantrums and bitchyness, only encouragement and hugs!

Each episode have three challenges: following a pattern,
making a alteration and made to measure.

Love the fashion history, how-to projects they include as well! Only complaint... a bit short with only 4 episodes, I could have watched more!

Fingers crossed for many more seasons!
and perhaps The Great Australian Sewing Bee???

Check out Tilly on her own sewing blog Tilly and The Buttons

Here is the first episode....let the addiction begin!
