Japanese Doona Cover

This project has been completed for a while
now but I still wanted to share it.

I came across a bag of beautifull Japanese kimono off  cuts all in shades of blue. I fell instantly in love and thought that I would create a patchwork style doona cover for my partner since the colours were more masculine compared to my usual bright style.

I was inspired by the delicate hand Sashiko stitching I found on parts of the fabric and decided to do all the stitching of the fabric on to the base also by hand. Now I must say that there were times where I started to regret this decision but am certainly glad that I stuck with it as my partner loved the final result and so do I!

A Quilt For Emma

I finally finished my first quilt!

It is for my good friend Lou's little girl
Emma first birthday.

For the front of the quilt I wrote a poem, found a cool crayon font and had it printed at Spoonflower
I picked an adorable Koala print also from Spoonflower for the back.

I bought the purple polka dot fabric for the border and the pre-made bias binding from GJ's Fabrics.

Having a look at my colour choices!
I was quite happy with this combo, not too girly girl!

I used a walking foot so the fabric would
evenly feed through the machine.

The masking tape was used as a guide to get
lovely stright lines.

Mitring the corners is always a bit tricky.
I machine stitched the binding down on one side, folded it around to the other side
and hand stitched it down.

I hand embroidered my name and the date to add a little special touch!

Lou and Emma looking happy!

I am very happy too with how it turned out!
I'm already dreaming of my next one,
adult size next time!
